O God, who in your love and mercy
was pleased to send us missionaries
to bring the light of Christ to our motherland Uganda,
we thank you for the gift
of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda,
our ancestors in the faith,
whom you gave the strength to overcome sin,
and the anguish of torture
and to bear witness to the truth.
We ask you O Lord, grant,
through the intercession of St. Charles Lwanga
and his companions,
that we may imitate their deep faith,
hope, ardent charity, spirit of prayer,
heroic chastity, and constant fidelity
to Christ and your Church.
Grant us your grace, that,
following the example of the Holy Martyrs of Uganda,
we may courageously witness to Christ.
Give us a strong faith that knows no despair,
so that, like the Holy Martyrs of Uganda,
we may courageously accept and endure
the hardship of this life
for love of you, our God.
O God, in this Holy Year of Mercy,
give us courage and charity
so that we may bring your mercy in families,
schools and places of work,
especially to promote forgiveness,
reconciliation and peace,
so that our faith may be seen in our good works.
We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
